Interior layout
First Floor: The ground floor includes a spacious living room combined with a kitchen and dining area, a bathroom with a toilet, an office/guest room, and a technical room for home maintenance. Additionally, there is an attached 18-square-meter (approximately 194 square feet) garage and a storage room, which can also function as a gym or extra storage space, as shown in the floor plan. The first floor also features a 25-square-meter (approximately 269 square feet) terrace, which the homeowners use for gatherings, grill parties, and outdoor dining during warmer seasons.
Second Floor: Moving upstairs, the second floor is dedicated to the family’s private quarters. It includes the master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, a large children’s room with enough space for two full-sized desks, and a separate bedroom for the grandmother, who lives with the family. Both the children’s room and the grandmother’s bedroom have access to a shared balcony of 8.5 square meters (approximately 91 square feet). The second floor also features a spacious 13-square-meter (approximately 140 square feet) shared bathroom, perfect for housing a full-sized bathtub or jacuzzi.
Construction Details
The house is built using 200 mm thick and 200 mm high glulam beams. The construction process was completed in a remarkably short time, with a five-person crew assembling the house in just three weeks. The absence of interior finishing requirements minimized the time needed to prepare the house for living.
Shipping and Timeline
The house was shipped by sea, requiring four 40-foot open-top containers. The sea freight took 41 days, with domestic delivery within the U.S. handled by local carriers, which took five working days. The total timeline for the project, including design, production, shipping, and assembly, was 7.5 months. Local contractors hired by the client handled the assembly and final commissioning of the home.
Unique Challenges in the U.S.
One unique aspect of working in the U.S. is that each state has its own construction regulations and requirements. For this reason, finding a local contractor for assembly and final approval was the optimal solution. Communications and some finishing touches, such as certain bathroom walls, sections of the corridor, and the space under the staircase, were completed by the same team responsible for the home assembly.
Planning and Execution:
The most critical phase in constructing a modern wooden house is the planning stage, which precedes production. During this stage, all interior decisions are made, communication lines are integrated into the design, and technical openings are laid out for future improvements. We believe we exceeded expectations, fulfilling 110% of the client’s vision. Our experienced architects and designers also provided valuable suggestions for refining and improving certain aspects of the client’s initial design. Not all pre-made designs come with well-thought-out solutions, but our expertise ensures that we guide clients away from potential long-term issues they might face with their wooden homes.
As seen in the images, the wooden structure doesn’t require additional finishing, is energy-efficient, and naturally warm without extra insulation materials. Moreover, the eco-friendliness of wood ensures that a home like this offers a long-lasting, healthy, and happy living experience.
